Our Drumheller Dragons had two games on the schedule this past weekend, one at the Memorial Arena, and one on the road.
Friday night, the Dragons hosted the Fort McMurray Oil Barons. The Oil Barons have had a solid start to their season and the Dragons knew going into the game that it would be a battle. Fort McMurray would open the scoring early with a goal by Anthony Hurley. Dominic Seminoff would tie the game with 6:50 left in the first with his sixth of the year, from Colter Playfair and Paxton Cabana. The teams would be tied 1-1 after one.
Early in the second, Anthony Hurley would score again for the Oil Barons, giving them the 2-1 lead. At 1:53, Drumheller would tie the game with Dallin Antos scoring his first of the year, from Grayson Boe and Jacob Goudreau. With just under four minutes left in the period, Fort McMurray would regain the lead with a goal by Lucas McDonald.
The Dragons would tie the game 3-3 at 3:45 of the third, with Dallin Antos scoring his second of the game, on the power play, from Colter Playfair and Griffen Bruno. With 4:59 left in the game, the Oil Barons would rush the net and Anthony Hurley would score his third of the game on a bit of a controversial goal, and the game would end with the Dragons falling 4-3.
Saturday, the Dragons battled the ferocious winds as they travelled up to Devon to face the Xtreme. Drumheller came prepared as they would have a strong start to the game and open the scoring with 3:51 left in the first, with Rowan McDonald scoring his second of the year, from Kutcher Aquila and Bradley Gallo. Then, with 56 seconds left in the period, Dominic Seminoff scored his second goal of the weekend (7), with a beautiful set up by Bradley Gallo and Dallin Antos, on the power play.
The Dragons would add to their lead later in the second period as Lachlan Kozicky scored his fifth of the year, from Grayson Boe and Jacob Goudreau, at 13:49, making it 3-0 Drumheller.
The Dragons would get into a bit of penalty trouble in the third, giving the Xtreme a five-on-three advantage. Just as the five-on-three was finishing, Jacob Goudreau would find Luca Dufour coming out of the penalty box and he would score his second of the year, short-handed, making it 4-0 Dragons. Devon would score a couple of power play goals in the period but could not complete the comeback as the Dragons would hold on for the 4-2 victory.
Drumheller is on the road for a midday game on Wednesday as they visit the Lloydminster Bobcats, for their “Hockey Hooky” game. Game time on Wednesday is at 12 PM.
