It looks like there may be some renovations in store for the Drumheller Court House according to the Province of Alberta.
In an announcement on Thursday, October 22nd, the Government of Alberta shared that 10 courthouses within the province will getting security upgrades, including here in Drumheller. “To support safe and reliable court services for Albertans, Alberta’s government has invested more than $6 million to make security upgrades at the Edmonton, Sherwood Park, Lethbridge, Drumheller, Fort McMurray, St. Paul, Pincher Creek, Alexis, Canmore and Cochrane courthouses.”
The security improvements will improve building access, emergency systems, security technology and prisoner movement areas to help create a safer environment for court users, judiciary, staff, peace officers, and members of the public.
“Albertans expect courthouses to be safe and secure spaces for everyone who works in, visits or relies on our justice system,” shares Mickey Amery, Minister of Justice and Attorney General. “These investments will help modernize security infrastructure and support the safe delivery of court services across the province.”
The provincewide initiative builds on recommendations from a 2023 planning study that identified security and health and safety improvements needed at courthouses across Alberta. Several security projects are currently in the design and procurement stages, with construction beginning or advancing this fiscal year. The security upgrades are anticipated to be completed in 2027.
The specific changes to the Drumheller Court House have yet to be identified but as was shared, are expected to be completed by next year.
