A road that is in need of major repair and has also been planned to be twinned is looking like it may happen sooner rather than later.
Highway 575 in Drumheller between 2nd Street West and 17th Street Southwest has needed major repairs over the past number of years and it had been hoped that the road would be twinned similar to a number of major thoroughfares in Drumheller.
According to information shared by Director of Infrastructure Services with the Town of Drumheller, Jared Brounstein, the Province of Alberta has the rehabilitation of Highway 575 scheduled for 2027. The project included resurfacing the existing roadway as well as replacing of a culvert west of Premier Road. With the addition of twinning the roadway, the cost of the project is estimated at $6.3 million dollars. Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors is willing to fund approximately $4.71 million of the project, which would leave $1.2 million to be funded by the Town of Drumheller.
The portion of the roadway that Drumheller Town Council proposed be twinned is between 2nd Street West, the traffic lights by Circle K, and the Premier Road intersection, where it would join the road that is currently four lanes wide. Council approved a motion to contribute the $1.2 million dollars to the project and to have it included in the 2027 Capital Budget for the Town.
