One of the biggest events that comes to the Drumheller Valley every summer is growing, now planning for a two day event instead of just one day.
Gran Fondo Badlands is growing! In 2027, the popular cycling event will expand to two incredible days, giving more riders the opportunity to experience one of Canada’s most unique and memorable cycling destinations.
Cycling in Drumheller is unlike riding anywhere else. Riders wind through dramatic badlands, towering hoodoos, rolling coulees and wide-open prairie, with incredible views around every corner. Challenging climbs, thrilling descents and a welcoming local community make Drumheller the perfect destination for an unforgettable cycling weekend.
“Gran Fondo Badlands has continued to grow, and moving to two days gives us the opportunity to welcome more riders while creating smoother starts, less congestion and an even better experience on every route,” said Richelle Love, Event Director. “Whether someone is chasing a big-distance challenge, enjoying a shorter adventure through the Badlands or taking on an incredible two-day cycling feat, there is now an entire weekend of riding to look forward to.”
On Saturday, July 3, 2027, riders will take on the event’s longer 163 km and 100 km distances. These newly designed routes will not cross the Bleriot Ferry, allowing riders to focus on the challenge, scenery and wide-open roads of the Badlands. The capacity for riders on Saturday is 2,000 and expected to once again sell-out.
On Sunday, July 4, 2027, the 75 km and 50 km events will feature the unforgettable Bleriot Ferry crossing that has become such a special part of the Gran Fondo Badlands experience. The capacity for riders on Sunday is 800 (far less due to the ferry crossing) and expected to once again sell-out.
Every registration includes:
- Pre-ride breakfast and coffee
- On-course mechanical and medical support
- Well-stocked aid stations, including the famous Bacon Station in Wayne
- Professional chip timing
- Gran Fondo Badlands event T-shirt
- Gran Fondo Badlands finisher’s medal
- Post-ride lunch and beer
Riders can choose one distance or make a full weekend of it by taking on routes on both Saturday and Sunday. With four distances, multiple start waves and two distinct days of riding, the expanded format offers something for cyclists of all experience levels.
More information and registration details are available through Gran Fondo Badlands.
